Banning Smoking on the Beach

I was told with great interest while out last night that apparently some of the major areas are contemplating totally banning smoking on the beaches. One Town I know that was mentioned was Barcelona and there were a few others mentioned but can't remember them. Perhaps from the local Spanish press some of you may know a bit more about this subject.

Personally I think this is a fantastic idea. While on the beach yesterday enjoying the sea air for most part, a large family arrived and a cigar was hanging out of this man's mouth. Oh no I thought and immediately started stressing out. The wind was blowing in the wrong direction for me, so I could smell this stinky cigar and it completely ruined my morning. I had to move.

I sincerely hope this is enforced in ALL public areas. If people wish to smoke themselves to death they can do this in the comfort of their own homes. That's it folks - come on bring it on now!!

La Marina

Completely and utterly agree with you Henry. It's not nice when you go to the beach to relax and breath in the lovely fresh air only to have it ruined by thoughtless and selfish people who have to smoke and pollute the air for others !!

How on earth would that be operated . How ever it would certainly be a high revenue earner for local councils who are strapped for income. Must agree with you Henry just one of these unthinking people on a beach can ruin it for all around especially those who are down wind of the offender.
PS: Dont tell Jeff

I am a non smoker. that doesn't bother me much. what my problem is are the dogs on the beach during the summer months. When you have grand children playing on the beach and the dog owners don't clear up realy annoys me. Anyone else have the same views?

Sandradiane I thought all dogs were banned from being on the beach during the summer months. As a dog owner, I would not dream of taking my dog on the beach during the peak season. I have not taken him down there many times during the winter months. It is a fact of life that you will always get people who do not consider other people and their comforts. I wonder if they would like us to let our dogs do their business in their gardens or on tne pavements outside their properties, I doubt it.

Henry started this posting titled Banning Smoking on the Beach - NOT talking about dogs pooing on the beach.
Sandradiane - you should have started another posting about Dogs on the beach.

Carol
I have to agree with Sandradiane, the bane of my life is dogs crap, bad enough on parks and pavements, and absolutely abhorrent on beaches,So as to keep it in line with your smoking theme.
Given someone smoking on a beach or dogs crap on the beach I will take sitting near a smoker any day

I can solve all your problems in one easy move.
Lock everyone in their houses, or should I say casas, and ban them from breathing, then they can't annoy anyone. I'm 72 and never heard so many moans in my life as I've heard on here. When me go to church the service starts with the phrase. "This is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it" Some of you need to try it sometime. Tomorrow is the first anniversary of my nephew who died in his sleep aged 51. His parents have lost all 3 of their children. Dog poo, smoke, loud music, they'd take it all for just one of their kids back.xxx
Eternal rest Elizabeth, Catherine and Paul. Rest in peace xx

At last the voice of reason and well done to you Mazza...these people will moan about anything just so long as they can moan about something. My thoughts are with you on the loss of your nephew and how true when you say your brother would put up with anything if only he could have his children back. What a good idea to lock everyone up in their houses so that the moaners won't have anyone to moan about...guess what I bet they would still find something.

Well said Susan but we're so lucky to be living here in such a fabulous place. We have the sea and beach a few minutes drive away. Lots of bars and restaurants, places of entertainment and a good range of shops. I can't tell you how I love La Marina. I'm not saying it's perfect but it will do us till we find somewhere better. Count your blessings folks

Oh for goodness sake. Listen to the lot of you. Are you serious? Why don't you all go and live on some uninhabited island on the other side of the world so no-one can bother you? How about banning walking on the sand (in case a few grains blow on someone) swimming in the sea (unhygienic), talking above a whisper (noise pollution) bringing food and drink - especially meat products, (smell & might offend vegetarians or alcoholics) having fun, all children (in case they cause all of the above) anyone over 10 stone wearing a bikini......etc. etc. etc.

It's a real shame that these people are ruining La Marina for others with their constant complaining about absolutely everything. I was talking to someone last night who had been off for the weekend to Benidorm (not everyone's cuppa I know) however it was just the way she said how much she had enjoyed it then added after all you can't do anything here in La Marina you're not allowed. Now we have the anti smoking brigade wanting to ban smoking on the beach too. Oh the joy of it all. NOT

Commented Negotiator in La Marina 2012-06-06 06:31:12 UTC

I thought smoking was only for the affluent, still I guess it help put a few shekels in the Spanish coffers.
